The Jazz Exiles is an exciting Jazz/Funk/Fusion group of musicians helmed by Toronto drummer/composer Mark Kelso. Featuring Rich Brown on bass, Jeremy Ledbetter on Keys, Luis Deniz on Sax and Joey Martel on guitar, these players create an intense and creative musical playground for their original music.

Formed to continue in the style of groups such as Weather Report, Yellowjackets, Pat Metheny Group and Snarky Puppy, the music of the Jazz Exiles is energetic, funky and wild, yet melodic and accessible to all. The ferocity of the grooves will definitely get your body moving.

Their 2016 Juno Nominated first recording “Stealing From My Youth” is a finely crafted and beautifully sounding CD featuring 10 original compositions by Kelso written specifically to feature these fine players. Says Kelso, “With this group of musicians, I have no limits. I can write anything for them and they can take the music and make it sound incredibly exciting and fresh in a very short time”.

The Jazz Exiles have been garnering rave reviews this year from their recent performances at the Banff Center for the Performing Arts, the Juno Awards, the Beaches Jazz festival, the Oakville Jazz festival and the South Coast Jazz festival. The band has also been receiving regular airplay on JazzFM.

The group has just finished their second recording entitled “Elementals” which will be released in the fall of 2017.

Kelso, Ledbetter, Brown, Martel, & Deniz are the Jazz Exiles, united in groove, embracing creativity and giving 110% to their audiences.
