Jazz Giants Series: ANITA O’DAY TRIBUTE Ori Dagan and Nathan Hiltz with guest Whitney Ross-Barris

August 21 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Every Tuesday from July 10 to August 28, join us at Jazz Bistro for a summer series in tribute to the jazz giants. This series will feature award-winning jazz singer-songwriter Ori Dagan and guitarist extraordinaire Nathan Hiltz, with a different guest artist each week.

Award-winning jazz singer, songwriter and recording artist Ori Dagan is taking jazz to new and exciting places. His rich baritone voice and impressive abilities as an improviser produce an instantly recognizable sound. In live performance, he surrounds himself with Canada’s finest musicians, performing an engaging mix of material which is always fresh and in the moment. Dagan’s third recording, “Nathaniel: A Tribute to Nat King Cole” (2017 Winner: Silver Medal for “Best Album” at the Global Music Awards) is a unique “Visual Album” homage to the legendary jazz musician and pop icon: a collection of 12 music videos with guest appearances by Sheila Jordan, Jane Bunnett and Alex Pangman.

Nova Scotia born jazz guitarist Nathan Hiltz moved to Toronto in 1999. Since then he has established himself as one of the country’s finest electric and acoustic guitarists, well-versed in a variety of styles from jazz and blues to classical and world music. Sought after as both a leader and an accompanist, Nathan performs over 200 gigs a year and has toured extensively across Canada with a variety of artists. He currently teaches at The Humber College School of Creative and Performing Arts.

Whitney Ross-Barris may be relatively new to the Toronto jazz scene, but she brings with her more than a decade of experience as a professional actor. She’s performed and trained all over Canada, in the U.S. and in Europe. Her eclectic taste in music – with influences such as Chet Baker, Tom Waits, Louis Armstrong, Anita O’Day, Mel Tormé, Marvin Gaye, Oscar Peterson – and her background in theatre performance lend themselves to a different and innovative approach to jazz standards.
