Stu started singing at an early age as an amateur performing in plays and musical festivals in the Mississauga area.
In his teens, he took his talent abroad performing at Disneyworld Florida, Chicago’s Comiskey Park and various national music festivals like Musicfest Canada in Halifax, NS.
Stu attended the Cawthra Park school of the arts during high school where he earned a scholarship to the National Jazz Camp in Parry Sound, Ontario where he trained under distinguished Canadian jazz pioneer Ranee Lee.
Stu studied as a vocal major at the esteemed Humber College Jazz Program and in 1998, won the jazz vocalist of the year award.
Mac believes his interest in jazz was influenced in the early years listening to the likes of Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong but his pursuit of music was truly cemented after meeting Canadian jazz legend Diana Kra
In 2000, Mac formed a working jazz band launching his first album
“In A Moment” with his jazz contemporaries Gordon Webster, Rob McBride, Dave Brophy, Ben Jansson and Justin Walter.
More than a decade later, Stu has returned to the club scene to share his love of swing and create his latest project Out of the Blue. This latest work is a collaboration with lifelong friend and Canadian jazz bassist, Ross MacIntyre. The album is rounded out by pianist Stu Harrison and drummer Mark Micklethwaite.
