The Coltrane Sutras

November 19 @ 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm

Inspired by the late 1960s countercultural and spiritual revelations of John and Alice Coltrane, saxophonist brothers Jonathan and Andrew Kay are carrying forward the Coltranes’ search for a transcultural theory of musical transcendence. Rooted in their beginnings as jazz musicians in Toronto and deepened through years of immersive training in North Indian classical music while living in Kolkata, India, the Kay brothers have been re-imagining the Coltranes’ legacy through a bold and compelling transcultural lens.

In 2021, they released the first installment of this vision, The Coltrane Sutras: Dusk Dawn Suite, in collaboration with renowned jazz greats Roberto Occhipinti and Pat LaBarbera.

Now, they return with the next chapter—The Coltrane Sutras: Cosmic Threads of Becoming—an expansive new album that continues their exploration of spiritual sound, improvisational freedom, and cross-cultural dialogue. This album release concert will premiere the music live, inviting audiences into a powerful soundworld where every note carries both the fire of revolution and the light of transcendence.

Join us for an evening that honors the Coltranes’ legacy while charting bold new directions for jazz and beyond.
